Maria Katelouzos truly embodies the spirit of reconciliation every day, as a Support and Education Worker for Burnaby Family Life, Pre/Postnatal Services.
Maria leads groups for pregnant woman and new mothers at risk in order to bridge gaps between culturally diverse communities. She establishes close relationships with women at risk daily, both during and after their pregnancies, through education, advocacy and empathy. Her clients include immigrant women from countries that are at war or in crisis.
Maria’s work empowers women to resolve situations and overcome barriers as they adapt to becoming both new mothers and new Canadians. By sharing her stories and allowing the women to share theirs, she creates an environment that builds relationships and celebrates diversity. Her clients love her as well for her sense of humor, baby hugging and empathy.
Our future and the well being of all our children rest on the kind of relationships Maria builds every day.
