Daina Augaitis

Daina Augaitis

Daina Augaitis has devoted most of her professional life to supporting and promoting the art and artists of British Columbia. In particular, she has given significant energy to celebrating the art of BC’s First Nations through landmark exhibitions including Raven Travelling: Two Centuries of Haida Art,Brian Jungen and the current Charles Edenshaw show. As chief curator of the Vancouver Art Gallery, a post she has held for nearly twenty years, Ms. Augaitis has also championed including First Nations art as an integral part of many broad-themed exhibitions, showing it alongside works by artists of European, Asian and other ancestries in exhibitions which speak powerfully to creating shared understandings and weaving a stronger and more vibrant social fabric. Her efforts have made the work of First Nations artists better known and appreciated at home and internationally, and brought First Nations art into an honoured place in our halls of culture.
