Zoya Jiwa, 19, is a young woman who is able to deeply understand the perspectives and challenges that others face. She uses this skill to dedicate much of her time toward creating and delivering high-demand workshops in Metro Vancouver and beyond, on topics of health and wellness. Despite having to face health challenges herself, with the autoimmune disease Lupus each day, Zoya inspiringly transforms her challenges into opportunities to educate and support those around her. Stemming from this, her successful program, “Simply You”, has reached over 3000 students – many of whom are young girls, who have learned from Zoya about inner beauty, how to deconstruct and think critically about media portrayals of beauty, and who have gained newly-found confidence as a result. I have seen with my own eyes that the work Zoya does is important and valued enormously by the communities that have been blessed by her presence, remarkably.
